When They come for You, 2017
portland cement, water based ink
6ft x 7ft x 6ft
A set of guidelines to follow if ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) comes to your house. These instructions were distributed around Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) Boca Raton campus to warn those affected by past and current immigration laws. As hundreds of undocumented and documented immigrants have been arrested by ICE officers, this work aims to inform and care for those in need. The concrete blocks assimilate the surrounded building structure as a visual representation of the unseen challenges of immigrants. This work was originally displayed as an outside installation in the Free Speech Area at the FAU Boca Raton campus, disrupting student flow upon entering campus. The ink is water soluble and dissolves when exposed to the elements of nature, reflecting how this topic becomes popular and the suddenly forgotten, while the underline issue still persists.
